Extended Abstract Poetry is an art therapy technique used to gain awareness about unconscious processes, develop skills to cope with anxiety, activate creative thinking, increase self-confidence, experience the moment and gain awareness about what is in the moment (Springer, 2006). Poetry therapy, which is based on the recognition and evaluation of many effects that occur with the use of poetry in the therapy process, can be defined as the use of language arts in the therapy environment (Mazza, 2014). Poetry, which is a therapeutic tool, helps individuals to express their feelings and thoughts and to gain awareness about themselves through the artistic product that emerges with the creative process (Thomas & León, 2012). Mental health professionals who are poetry therapy practitioners can integrate the theoretical basis of their psychology approach into poetry therapy. The therapists who first used poetry as a therapeutic tool were often psychoanalytically oriented. For this reason, first of all, importance was given to emotional expression and it was aimed to help individuals gain insight by reaching unconscious materials that they suppressed with the help of poetry (Punzi, 2022). Later, experts integrated different psychotherapy approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (Collins, Furman, & Langer, 2006), mindfulness-based therapy (Shapiro, 2001), gestalt (Friedman, 2002), existentialist (Furman, 2003) into poetry therapy. They helped to make sense of the expressed. In this respect, poetry therapy is an expressive art therapy that is compatible with many different theory and practice models. Studies on the effectiveness of poetry therapy programs, which are increasing rapidly in the international literature, have started to find a place in the literature of our country. However, it is quite limited. The results of this research are important in terms of forming a basis for the poetry therapy studies to be carried out in our country. From this point of view, the main purpose of this research is “Does the poetry therapy program affect the trait anger and self-esteem levels of individuals? It is to seek an answer to your question. This study is a single group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental research without a control group. In the single-group pre-test post-test model, there are measurements both before and after the research (Karasar, 2014). The Trait Anger Sub-Scale (STAS) was used to determine the trait anger levels of the individuals participating in the study, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSS) was used to determine their self-esteem. The scales were administered as a pre-test before the study started and as a post-test at the end of eight weeks. The study group consists of 10 participants, 6 female and 4 male, who meet the participation criteria and are between the ages of 20-21. The content of the program applied in the research; It was created with the aim of realizing and expressing
