Belirli bir zaman ve belirli bir yerde, bir izleyici kitlesine sunulan gösteriler olarak tanımlanabilecek sahne sanatları, bu geniş tanım gereği, geleneksel eğlence biçimlerinden Batı etkisinde gelişen modern tiyatroya pek çok etkinliği içine alır. Teknoloji çağının öncesinde 'en faydalı eğlence' olarak görülen tiyatro başta gelmek üzere, sahne sanatları bugün de geniş kitlelere ulaşmaya devam etseler de en güçlü etkilerini sinemanın yeni yeni yaygınlaştığı geç Osmanlı-erken Cumhuriyet aralığındaki geçiş döneminde gösterirler. Ağırlıklı olarak Beyoğlu ve Direklerarası'nda faaliyet gösteren tiyatrolar, bir dönemin en yaygın eğlence şekillerinden tuluat tiyatroları ve bunların icracıları komik-i şehirler, özgün veya adapte oyunları Anadolu'nun en uzak köşelerine kadar ulaşmasını sağlayan gezici kumpanyalar az sayıda roman, öykü, şiir ve tiyatro oyununda ele alınırlar. Çoğu zaman sanat aşkının, tiyatro hevesinin, sanatsal hazzın ve bütün bunların seyirciyle paylaşılması için yapılan fedakârlıkların estetik bir yüceltimle ele alındığı bu eserler, sahne sanatlarının az bilinen dünyası hakkında değerli bilgiler verirler. Kulislerde, sahne arkasında yaşananları, sanatçıların çileli hayatları ve özellikle turneye çıkan kumpanyaların yaşadığı zorlukları sanatın gücü ve tiyatro sevgisiyle iç içe geçirerek ele alırlar.

Abstract
Stage arts, which can be defined as performances presented to an audience at a given time and in a certain place, indudes many activities from traditional entertainment forms to modern theater which developed under the influence of the West. Although the theater, which was considered to be the most beneficial entertainment before the era of technology, continues to reach wide audiences today, the most powerful effects of the theater have been seen in the transition period between the late Ottoman-early Republic period when cinema was just getting widespread. Theaters, which were predominantiy in Pera and Direklerarasi, the improvisation theaters which are the most popular forms of entertainment of the time, and their performers, the Fools, and traveling companies that provide orig- inal or adapted plays to the farthest comers of Anatolia are told in novels, short stories, theater plays and poems, which are scarce in number Most of the time, these works, in which the love of art, theater enthusiasm, artistic pleasure and sacrifices made to share all this with the audience, are handled with an aesthetic uplifk, give valuable information about the less known world of stage arts. They tell the stories of the backstage, experiences of the artists behind the scenes, the ordeal of the artists, and especially the dificulties of the touring companies, interiwined with the power of the art and the love of theater.
